Welcome to ORP

The Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), a governmental defined contribution plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code, is available to eligible institutions of higher learning teaching and administrative faculty in Mississippi. This alternative plan is structured to be portable and transferable to accommodate teaching and administrative faculty who move from one state to another throughout their careers.

Deciding between ORP and PERS

The Optional Retirement Plan Overview was created to help employees make the decision between joining ORP or the Public Employees' Retirement System of Mississippi (PERS). Once made, this decision is irrevocable, so take a few minutes to read through the guide. Then, if you have questions, talk to your Human Resources Department for specific information regarding participation in ORP.
